If you used to have perfect credit but have made some late payments following a move, job loss, deaths in family or health care crisis, erroneous charges or other fraud on accounts, or other life-changing events, is there a credit card offering a good APR introductory rate who isn’t going to consider you “high risk” and take advantage of your current situation to change you from the best rate to the worst? Is there anything where your money does some good like “working assets” that hasn’t been swallowed up by B of A or MBNA? Does a credit score of about 650 mean you should be paying the worst APR rate?

I work at JCPenney. We have to ask customers if they would like to save __% and open a JCP credit account. Now, my manager has told us that we have a quota to meet now. If we work 20 hours or less, we have to get at least 1 app a week, if we work more than 20 hours-then it has to be at least 2. They told us that if we fail to get any, then our hours will be cut because ‘we’ve shown that we can’t do it..’. I have no problems asking customers if they want to do it, but does anyone think its a little too much to cut hours because people don’t want to open an account? I feel like my managers are way focused on the credit card apps & not on how good we perform in general. I just feel like all my hard work is not getting paid off because I can’t get many credit card applications. Thoughts?
My managers tell us there is no reason why we shouldn’t get any credit card apps. One of my managers always brag about how she gets credit card apps every day..but what she fails to realize is she gets to stand around talk people into opening one up. As a customer service associate, we have to ring up customers, help customers find what they need, clear out fitting rooms, put items back where they belong, and ask if they want to open up an account…we dont get the privilege of standing there talking with people…..
I was never thinking of it as ‘illegal’. I just thought it was kind of harsh to cut hours for that reason. I’m not the only one having difficulties with it. Some of them are pushy when they ask. I’m not pushy. I simply ask the question, in an upbeat & positive attitude, and if they say no-then no..if they say yes-then I say something like “ok, great-it’ll take just a few minutes..” and get started on it. I don’t keep going on about it & risk getting the customer pissed off.

I have been getting mail with my son’s name on it for credit cards, junk mail, and today was something from “sell your gold”…How do these places obtain names to send crap to? My son hasn’t applied for anything. What does this mean?
And I have no clue what catagory to put this in..so here we go.
Thanks all. I asked him about it today and told him what was in the mail. He said the only thing it could be was some questionaire thing on the internet of course to get extra “AP” for this game 12th Sky he plays. So needless to say, we sat down and had a long talk..and he knows not to ever give his name and address out to anyone. He doesn’t know his ss#, so luckily he didn’t give that out! Whew. I was afraid that maybe his father(not in the picture and is a criminal) who somehow got ahold to his ss# may have been doing something, but when I found out he had it, I put a flag on my son’s ss# a few years ago just in case.
