Can I substitute my mother’s maiden name to a different word on my credit card application?

Credit Card Applications
Call me super paranoid, but I think it wouldn’t be that hard for anyone to figure out my mom’s maiden name and steal my identity and whatnot.

Would this be a big deal, and does anyone else think this is a good idea?

    Yes, its just a password.
But make sure you remember it for life.
I do it since my mother’s name is so hard to spell out.

The reason they use mother’s maiden name is to make it easy for you to remember years from now. The risk of using another word is that you won’t remember.
