I got my first CC through Sears and then JC penney. Also back in the day a good way to build credit was gas cards and The Finger Hut (catalog where you make 3 payments of whatever for household items). I’m a real estate agent and I am trying to help my husband rebuild his credit right now. We needed a mattress and he applied for that and got it.
You might also want to try some of the smaller mall stores like VS, NY and CO, and Bath and Body who are actually linked and owned by the same company. Also, I have never had problems getting a small line of credit from Best Buy (computers, printers and stuff, ink). Hope this helps. Don’t apply for too much though, that hits your credit in a bad way!
The Internet is probably the safest way to go, or walking into a bank. I would never do it through the mail, because someone could easily steal it, or it can get lost.
If you apply over the Internet, just make sure the application has a SSL lock, so your information is encrypted. I have given my info a million times and never had a problem.
Allow you bank or building society to send you offers through the post.
Find offers online or in magazines, newspapers, they are everywhere and join one that suits you in branch or through the post.
Once you get one you will receive loads of offers for others.
