How do I stop an X from using my phone number on Credit Card applications?

Credit Card Applications
Because we have the same initials and last name the creditors call me. I divorced HIM in 1995. This has been going on 14 years! I had this phone number before we married. I pay my bills on time and do not abuse my credit. I do not want an unlisted number nor do I want to change my number. I have done nothing wrong! Short of Marriage to change my last name or Murder to stop HIM (if that were legal) how do I solve this problem? If HIS creditors can not find him in all these years is there any hope of solving this problem?

You can’t stop him. Just bit the bullet and change your number.

A more important question is whether he is using your identity on credit application. Have you checked your credit reports and placed freezes on your credit records?

You could have your line set to reject withheld numbers as many of these people will be calling from call centres which withhold their number. You could contact Equifax and Experian they are the bodies which maintain credit reports, get a copy of your credit report and get any entries which do not relate to you removed. It is illegal for debt collection agencies to constantly pester you if any company continues to contact you either directly or indirectly once you have established your identity and that you have nothing to do with this debt they could be guilty of harassment.
