Mistake on credit card application?
April 21st, 2008
Ok, so today in the mail I got a letter saying I had been pre approved for a credit card from Chase. I have never had a credit card (I’m only 19) and only have used my debit card (not sure if that gives me any credit? I have had late fees and such and paid them on time.) But anyway, I still live with my parents. I’m a student and I have a part time job. When it asked for annual household income, it meant my entire family, right? Cause I put something down like 65,000 (a guesstimate of mine and my parents combined income.) Or did it mean JUST mine even though I live with my parents? I got approved….and now I’m scared I like lied on the application by accident or somehting lol. Help!
I did get the pre approved letter, but then when I filled out the actual application I DID get approved.
I did get the pre approved letter, but then when I filled out the actual application I DID get approved.

teh pre-approved is crap; everyone is pre- approved. They will verify your income and know at 19 you aren’t making 65k.
Not getting that card.
you’ll receive a lot of offers like this doesn’t really mean your
pre-approved, well depending on who reviews your account
they might not verify your income, but normally you put down
YOUR annual income. Who knows maybe you’ll get a
card maybe you don’t have even established credit and
they might say no.
Don’t worry about it. They did mean your personal income, but since you have little to no credit (due to your age) they probably gave you the credit card because you are a student. I got a CitiBank card and put $0 for income, but I was a full time student, so they gave me a $1200 limit. It will be fine, they either check out that info before they give you a card or they do not check it out at all.
They asked for household income, and you answered truthfully. You’ll get the card.
Now if you’re smart, you will handle it wisely. Your debit card doesn’t have anything to do with your credit report, but the fact that you said you had late fees is a concern. If you pay late with your credit card, they are going to raise your interest rate to something very high and you’ll wish you had never paid late.
Some people think a late payment once in a while is no big deal. That’s not true! If you want good credit, you never, ever pay late. Ever. Look around on the credit forum here and see how many people are trying to fix their horrible credit because they were “young and dumb”, and didn’t pay on time. Don’t be one of those people.
And don’t charge more than you can pay off every month. It’s too easy to get in over your head.
OK, so you made a honest mistake, they meant your income.
Since you were approved simply use your card wisely chargeing everyday things, never exceed 30% of your credit limit in any given month and pay it off in full before the due date and you will be fine. If they call and ask? Simply tell them the truth.
